Job Title:  Safety Manager

Reports Directly To:  Safety Director of G&R

Job Description:  Manage and implement Gibbs & Register’s safety program for ongoing civil sitework project while identifying hazards, ensuring accountability, and assisting our crews with adherence to client policies.  Safety Manager should be knowledgeable of internal policies, as well as federal, state and local safety laws in the construction industry.

Must be able to perform the following tasks:

  • Conduct multiple daily jobsite safety inspections on assigned project to identify potential safety hazards and ensure that safety standards are being observed.
  • Maintenance of project specific safety, incident, and injury records.
  • Work closely with field Supervision to promote safe and productive work environment.
  • Provide safety recommendations which support excavation, trenching, utility, roadway, concrete, equipment, lifting and other heavy civil operations.
  • Review and assist with JHA’s, pre task plans, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that weekly safety (toolbox) meetings are done and that topics are site specific.
  • Complete jobsite orientation and safety training as needed.
  • Monitor employee and subcontractor safety compliance with OSHA and company requirements.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Assist with accident investigations, near miss reporting, and root cause analysis while working with Safety Director and Risk Manager on managing the post incident process.
  • Assist with Emergency Response planning.
  • Attend safety training classes/conferences to stay current on safety industry.
  • Advise G&R Safety Director and Executive Management of any serious safety issues.
  • Coordinate on-site safety meetings as needed.
  • Provide safety performance feedback to all field management staff.
  • Physical Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Frequent sitting, climbing balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, use of hands to feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands, talk, and hear.
  • Lifting and or moving from 15 – 50 lbs
  • Work is performed on construction work site, as well as onsite trailer environment. There will be exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or low precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.  The noise if the outdoor work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Educational and experience requirements include Three years or more of construction safety experience (heavy civil preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards. OSHA 30 Hour Construction, and OSHA 510 preferred, as well as strong communication, organization, and problem solving skills.

Employees operating a company vehicle for Gibbs & Register’s purpose will be required to maintain a valid, eligible driver’s license, and a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier at all times.
