Five Points Roundabout
Challenge
The City of Lakeland hired Gibbs & Register to reconstruct a problematic intersection that first came to the city's attention after Hurricane Irma. The Hurricane caused significant damage to the traffic signal in 2017. When waiting at the intersection traffic signal, vehicles were constantly backed up during rush hour at George Jenkins Boulevard (SR 600).

Solution
The Five Points Roundabout is designed as a single-lane traffic circle where West Main Street, Lemon Street, Sloan Avenue, and Bonnet Springs Boulevard meet. The intersection is south of George Jenkins Boulevard and adjacent to a CSX railroad bridge.
Result
The intersection improvement will reduce delays, improve safety, and serve as a gateway feature to Downtown West.
